I am a documentary photographer working with long-term, collaborative projects.

My work focuses on how large societal questions — migration, inequality, and social change — are lived in everyday life. I work over extended periods of time, building relationships with people and communities.

For me, photography is not only a way of documenting life but a process of working together with the people portrayed. My projects often evolve into exhibitions, books and public initiatives.

For example, my project on everyday lives of asylum seekers became a series of exhibitions and a book Odotustila (Waiting  Room), but developed also into Toisenlaisia tarinoita (Different Stories), a campaign addressing the root causes of human trafficking, created together with Itohan Okundaye, one of the participants in the documentary project.

While my earlier projects examined migration, human trafficking, and social exclusion during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, my current work turns toward my own neighbourhood of Kannelmäki in Helsinki, exploring community, belonging, and collective memory. Alongside this local focus, I continue a long-term investigation into global displacement.

Across all projects, I explore how documentary photography can contribute to shared understanding across cultural and political divides, and decrease social and political polarisation.

In addition to my personal projects, I work as a freelancer for the Finnish press and governmental and non-governmental organisations.

I am happy to take assignments in Finland and abroad. Let's be in touch!
